CORNWALL PAINTED ON SILK
CORNWALL is one of my favourite places and my paintings are a reminder of wonderful holidays I have spent there. If you have a favourite place and a good photograph I can work from - why not have it painted on silk? Prices from £125 - £300+ depending on size and complexity. SILK PAINTING TECHNIQUE: I use 5 ponge or 8 ponge pure silk. After drawing my composition subject on paper, I attach silk to a frame to hold it in position, making sure the silk does not touch my drawing. I work on the silk, over the top of the drawing with various colours of gutta. When the gutta is dry, I can then paint my picture. The gutta retains the colour into an area. Without it, the colours would just keep moving with no form. To fix the painting, I iron the silk on the wrong side with a medium hot iron, then I usually wash the silk, then iron again, then maybe paint on it again, then iron it again, then wash it again, then iron it again. (It's quite a long process.) Silk paintings are very permanent, and seem to 'glow' with their vibrant colours. Once satisfied, I attach the silk to a white mount board to make it firm, ready for framing.
